I am not sure where to start with
this review, as there has been so much I have
resonated with during my read. It first came
to my attention about the time of the Japanese
earthquake. Caroline Myss had written on Facebook
around the topic of mother earth and our stewardship.
She referred to Ellen Gunter's work in closing.
In essence you are taken on a
spiritual journey starting with our human energetic
makeup and relationship to the planet, reminding
me of the connected nature of our world. More
than once I paused to reflect on what that actually
meant to me on a day-to-day basis.
Ellen then moves into how we use
and abuse earth. Her material, both in breadth
and depth is sobering and often frightening.
She covers all aspects of the environmental
challenge we are facing; climate, oil dependency,
seed control, deforestation, genetically modified
crops, water and the rapidly approaching global
food shortage. The statistics speak for themselves.
The last section is heart
warming. She lists 52 ideas for each of us to
embrace in order to reconnect with earth and
specifically our local areas. Whilst many of
the ideas refer to schemes in the USA, it does
not take too much imagination to translate them
into an Australian environment. This section
finishes with case studies of individuals who
have responded to the call of earth.
