Who Would you be Without
Your Story
Dialogues with Byron Katie
PB AUD27.95

|
|
In 1986 Byron Katie introduced The
Work to people across the globe via many avenues.
This book is a collection of fifteen
dialogues with Byron that occurred throughout
the US and Europe. Some of the people had painful
illnesses, others were lovelorn or in messy divorces,
some were simply irritated with a co-worker or
worried about money.
What they all had in common was
a willingness to question the painful thoughts
that are the true cause of all suffering. In every
case, you will see how Byron's acute mind and
fierce kindness helped each person dismantle for
him or herself what was felt to be unshakable
reality.
Each dialogue is a teaching tool
and one that you can use with your own thoughts.
The result, even in the seemingly direct situation,
can be unimagined freedom and joy.

The Zen Monastery Cookbook
Cheri Huber
PB AUD32.95

|
|
This is more than a cookbook. For
the dozens of people involved in its production,
whether they were Monastery Cooks or Cook Assistants,
this book is an expression of gratitude for the
practice of conscious, compassionate awareness
that transforms their lives.
These vegetarian recipes arose out
of the silence of the Monastery kitchen and from
the devotion of those who practice there.
Depending on how you look at it,
cooking and the practice of Zen, the practice
of conscious, compassionate awareness, are the
same thing. Cheri Huber often reminds students
- "it's not what you do, it's how you do
it." For example, just as bread is a staple
of our diet, so repetition is a staple of our
practice.
If you cook long enough, that repetition
eventually leads to the question, "Can I
find freedom from suffering chopping vegetables
every single day? Can I find the place within
where there is only joy?" If you are willing,
day-by-day, meal by meal, carrot by carrot, that
joy unfolds!

Mindful Movements
Thich Nhat Hanh
HC and DVD AUD22.95

|
|
Mindfulness is our ability to be
aware of what is going on both inside us and around
us.
It is the continuous awareness
of our bodies, emotions and thoughts. Through
mindfulness, we avoid harming ourselves and others.
The Chinese character for mindfulness
reveals it's meaning. The Upper part means 'now'
and the lower part stands for 'mind' or 'heart'.
There are ten exercises in this
book developed by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.
Based in Yoga and Tai Chi these exercises reduce
stress and tension, increasing mental, emotional
and physical well-being and are suitable for people
with a wide range of physical abilities.
Each exercise is fully illustrated
and included is a 35-minute DVD of Thich Nhat
Hanh and members of his Plum Village Sangha demonstrating
the Mindful Movements.

The Conscious Cook
Giselle Wilkinson
PB AUD34.95

|
|
This is a book for our times. Giselle,
a social and environmental activist for thirty
years and instrumental in establishing the Sustainable
Living Foundation, realised early in her life
that choosing to live consciously is a powerful
force for positive change.
Not only does the book contain 50 delicious recipes
covering an eclectic mix of ethnicities, ingredients
and dishes, it looks at food both from the point
of health and taste as well as through the lens
of the global sustainability movement working
to reduce our impact on the planet.
By addressing questions such as;
"Are you surprised to find plastic bags and
fertilisers are made of oil; "confused by
which rice to buy?" "Do the distances
our food travels and water content amaze you?;
"what impact does our food purchases and
cooking practices have on the planet and what
can we do about it?.
This book raises awareness of the
interconnections that link human health and wellbeing
with the health of the planet. The book is divided
into four distinct sections: the recipes, how
what you eat affects you, how what you eat affects
the world and what you can do about it.
