Nothing is as certain as change.
The change we face in our world
today is filled with challenges and opportunities
that we have never seen before, at a pace that
is relentless and requiring a skill set that is
multidiscipline.
Howard Gardner writes that we will
need to master the 'five minds' in order to be
able to find solutions.
He moves through his thesis by defining
the 'mind', providing examples of how that 'mind'
works and offers a lead into the next 'mind'.
Starting at what we most likely
understand - the disciplined mind, he describes
it as a distinctive mode of cognition to improve
skill and understanding of a task and become the
master of the skill set.
The synthesizing mind takes information
from many sources and puts it together in ways
that people can understand.
The Creating mind build on the previous
two and breaks the new ground with new ideas,
new questions and fresh ways of thinking.
Because we do not live on an island
the respectful mind begins to note and welcome
differences between human individuals and groups
by trying to understand others and work effectively
with them.
The ethical mind ponders on how
individuals and organisations can serve purposes
beyond self-interest.
