Reiki and the family
by Scott Macdonald
What is Reiki
Reiki was introduced to the West through
Dr. Usui Shiki Ryoho in the late 1800. It is an ancient
healing process. The Reiki experience is a very profound
meditation. Reiki channels and re-connects all to pure
unconditional love, allowing those who come in contact
with it to rediscover their connection to Spirit, to
rest in their core and to realise that their true nature
is love. This creates the space for fear to be released
at a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level,
making it possible for their own inner wisdom to give
them a deeper understanding of who they are.
The person attuned to Reiki has made a
commitment to be a channel for Universal healing energy,
and their own growth. This divine energy is channelled
through their hands by the use of sacred symbols that
have been placed into their etheric body at Reiki attunements
by a Reiki master. The energy is guided by spirit to
flow where it is needed most. The person receiving Reiki
stays fully clothed through out the healing. Reiki is
always for the highest good of all, so it is always
safe for both the receiver and the giver. The latter
is a protected channel and will always receive balancing
and healing when giving a session, and it is normal
to feel energised rather than drained at the end of
a session. Reiki has no religious affiliation, so it
is open to all.
Reiki and children
I would love to see a time where Reiki
is so much more accessible to children.
Children love Reiki. To quote Jamie, age 13: "Wow!
That was great! Do it again!!" A lot of children
report a sense of peace or stillness from a session
of about 5 to 10 minutes only. They can feel energy
as heat, coolness, pulsations, light and colours. I
have had children with A.D.D.H. (Attention Deficit Disorder
with Hyperactivity) repeatedly ask for another treatment
after they experienced this sense of peace. It is an
absolutely beautiful meditation for kids. Children as
young as five years of age have been attuned to Reiki
I. It is a really special gift to help a child rediscover
their direct connection to Spirit in a powerful and
efficient way. Children, once attuned, will give Reiki
to themselves, their pet, their friends and parents.
Reiki can create the space for children
where they feel safe secure and accepted to be themselves,
explore who they are and their environment. This enables
them, as they grow, to have a healthy self-esteem, and
to trust that life is unfolding for their highest good.
Reiki creates an environment that develops their full
potential.
Reiki and Parents
Reiki will support parents by giving them
a very practical way in which they can demonstrate their
love for their children, resulting in them being more
confident and comfortable in their role of meeting their
children's needs. This brings some much-needed peace
to the challenging role of being a parent. It also facilitates
communication with the children, Reiki, gives the parent
a direct connection to Spirit, guiding the adult on
their own spiritual journey to their inner core, brining
about the discovery of who they really are, and validating
their own unique Spirit. Once a parent is attuned they
can always send healing to their children, themselves
and their partner. Reiki can also facilitate a deep
bonding between the parents.

Reiki and childhood illness
Reiki can be used in the every day life of a child.
It can be of great help with:
Pregnancy and the birthing process -Colic
-To program crystals to help the child Teething- Abdominal
pain Headaches- Constipation or diarrhoea Emotional
upsets-
Insomnia- restless sleep- Any illness or injury-Hyperactivity,
especially A.D.D H Nightmares -To heal the future, if
the child is worried-To heal anything from the past
that may disturb the child-To send healing from a distance-Palliative
care
I am promoting Reiki to be used in conjunction
with mainstream medicine, because Reiki has a spiritual
and energy focus that medicine does not. Together they
care for the child holistically. It is my belief that
a lot of parents feel helpless when their child is sick.
They feel frustrated, thinking that they can't do anything
for their child. All the parents need to do, once attuned,
is place their hands and allow the energy to flow. Reiki
will bring stillness and sense of calm. To the child,
it will bring about a connection to their inner resources,
thus facilitating healing. It is really important to
gently inform people that this may or may not make their
child better. Reiki is always for the highest good:
it is guided by Spirit. An area that I am passionate
about is introducing Reiki to assist parents who are
caring for their dying child, and give support in the
dying process. This is challenging but rewarding work.
Reiki Training and sessions
I am an independent Reiki Master. There are three separate
levels of Reiki training. Reiki I and II form the basis
of Reiki healing. Reiki I & II, each take one day
of training, and are run in small groups or on an individual
basis. Course notes and certification are provided.
In Children's training, age and attention span are taken
into consideration.
Teach only love, for that is what you
are
